What is Backup and Recovery?

Online Tech offers two types of backup services:  Network storage and managed backup.

Network storage, often called unmanaged backup, provides networked storage capability for you to backup and store your critical data you need as you need it.  The network storage is maintained locally in the same data center and delivered on its own network so as not to impact the load on the production network.

With fully managed backup, Online Tech takes over the responsibility for backing up and archiving your data.  Managed backup works by using a software client installed on each server.  Each night data is encrypted and compressed on the volume(s) to be backed up, and sent to the backup server.  Your data never leaves the server until it’s encrypted, and no tapes are involved, eliminating the risk of tape loss, and restoration complications.  Our standard managed backup offers a 35 day archive, but other options are available.

Your managed backup and networked storage data can also be replicated over Online Tech’s private gigabit fiber connection to one of our other data centers.  With over 50 miles of geographic separation between data centers on different power grids, remote backup and storage offers an easy starting point for your disaster recovery plan.

• Secure – Network storage data is stored on a separate storage network, protected by a separate storage firewall and configured with a unique VLAN.

• Turnkey Deployment – Online Technologies configures, deploys, and monitors the backup process to ensure a successful backup every night.
• Completely Secure – Your data never leaves the server until it’s encrypted, and no tapes are involved, eliminating the risk of tape loss, and restoration complications.
• Robust Throughput – Each server is backed-up over a dedicated backup network.  This increases backup speeds, and offloads network traffic to a separate network, avoiding bottlenecks in the production network.
• Restoration and Archiving – Online Technologies will restore individual files or sets of files upon request. The standard backup retention period is 35 days of backup data.  Longer data retention periods, data archiving, and bare metal backup and restoration services are also available.
• Electronic Offsite Replication – For additional disaster recovery protection, Online Technologies can electronically replicate your backup data to a remote data center each night, providing geographic separation between your backup and production data.
